How could he??

It' been more than 2 months since he contacted her.. Shreya had so many things to share with him, her exam results, her new dress, joy of being appreciated at the work place, her disappointments, etc-2, everything under the sky related to her she wanted to share with him.. she wanted to know happenings in his life, wanted to share his happiness, his cheers.

Since the day they became best friends they used to share each & everything with each other, even the things which they hadn't told to anyone earlier.. She remembers how he shared his first heartbreak with her and how he was looking so cute like a child while crying. That was the first time she had seen a male cry.. It made her giggle & he got so angry over it. Oh, It took so long to cheer him up again.. but that was the moment she'll always remember coz at that moment she realized how much trust Nikhil had on her that he expressed his feelings so freely in front of her & at that very moment she knew how sensitive & sweet he was. Since than they have been an open book for each-other. She always wondered, how is he able to guess her mood, her state of the mind even without her telling him? Whenever she asked him he would just give a big smile & say - "your expressive eyes tell me everything"

She remembers how things changed & how for the last 2-3 months he din't have time to meet her, to listen to her as he has to give time to her fiancee, Surabhi.. he was always on phone with her, was always busy chatting or mailing her.. he told to Shreya that he'll need sometime for himself.. Shreya, who was happy for her friend got little disturbed by his behaviour, but thought it's a matter of 2-3 months & all will b fine after his marriage. She gave him his freedom and reduced the frequency of calls & SMS to him. Initially, he used to call her once in a fortnight or so... but the things got even worse after his marriage and now it's been 2 months after his marriage and no initiative from his side... no calls, no meetings, he din't even introduced her with his wife.. She had seen her in their marriage & just a little hi-hello, nothing else... And when she called to congratulate both of them, she felt like she is talking to some stranger.. she had no clue of wats wrong there..!!!

Shreya was so baffled by the situation, she wanted to talk to him, to know wats going on, wats on his mind??? but he wouldn't have a single minute to talk to her, to look at her..

It was becoming very difficult for her to live like this, she was so amazed to see that her friend who was so caring and concerned for her, who himself used to cry wen she even shed a tear, was not even bothered about her life & her sufferings.. She badly needed to pour her heart out.

So, she put all her feelings, all her doubts on a piece of paper and gave it to Nikhil, as he din't hv time to listen to her.. she told him to read it wenever he can & revert..

She kept waiting for his response but it was of no use.. about after a week, she called him up and asked about that matter and then found it hard to believe wat she heard from him.. She had never expected this from Nikhil even in her wildest dream..

He started blaming her for disturbing him, he told her that "now m a married man with additional responsibility towards my family and even now you want me to talk to u endlessly, to hang out with you and to give you attention and to be on my toes for you.. even now?? Earlier, I was lonely and had lots of free time thats why was able to spend time with you & had time to think about you.. now I can't do that for you."

She was so dumb stuck with his response that could'nt utter a single word to defend her self.. she was so hurt that he got her all wrong & could'nt understand her feelings despite being so close to her.. finally, she gathered all her courage and spoke up.. "Nikhil, you got me all wrong, I did'nt ever expected any of these things from you & now onwards I won't expect a single thing which someone expects from one's friend. I m sorry to say that u are not my best friend anymore, not even a friend.. I'll not explain my expectations to u as now I know that u won't uderstand or rather u don't wanna understand.. But one thing I wanna make clear that m not that selfish & that mean to expect all those things from a married man.. go, live your life with ur beloved & always b happy" & she put up the phone..

Tears were rolling down her cheeks & flowing with them - all her expectations of little care & concern from him, small sharings of his new life, new experiences and above all to be friends with his wife and to have fun together. She was in dilemma whether he was her friend ever or was she just a time pass or a toy for him to cast his lonelyness away????
She was unable to find an answer for the question her heart has posed before her "How could it happen to them & how could he???????"
